It's Monday! What are You Reading?

Thank you Jen and Kellee for hosting this weekly!  To see what others are reading and recommending, or to participate, be sure to check out their blog Teach Mentor Texts :)

This week, I read a mixture of children's books and professional books. Here are my favorites from this week:

Losing It by Ellen Fry will be published on September 4th - I was lucky to get an ARC at BEA! :)
Bennett has many struggles in his life: his mother passed away when he was five, his father has a life changing stroke, and he gets teased for being overweight. Through all of these challenges that he faces, his mindset begins to transform from fixed to growth mindset after his father ends up in the hospital. He sets the goal that he is going to try out for the cross country running team and once he sets that goal, he lets nothing get in his way from accomplishing it. Bennett is an inspiring character who will make positive impacts on many readers.  I look forward to sharing this book with my 5th graders soon! :)

I am a fan of the Lunch Lady series by Jarrett Krosoczka so I loved Lunch Lady and the Field Trip Fiasco #5.  After reading the entire series this summer, I went out and bought a copy of each book for my classroom because I know students will love this graphic novel series.  I can't wait for book #8 to come out in September - already pre-ordered it!
10 Things Every Writer Needs to Know is Jeff Anderson's most recent professional book about writing workshop.  In this book, he explains the top ten things he considers to be most important for writers to know.  Jeff Anderson dedicates one chapter to each of the ten things and includes examples of mini-lessons, strategies, mentor texts, and tips for the classroom.  My next book of his in my TBR is Everyday Editing - looking forward to starting that one this week.
Happy Reading! :)

  1. I'm reading Kate's Real Revision, now but I read Jeff's 10 Things before that. I loved it. I love all of his lessons. They are great. So glad he is sharing his thinking and teaching. Enjoy!
